you don’t need anything fancy or expensive to make a successful or cool piece of art. sometimes all you need is some old wallpaper, and random items found around your house. the ‘out of place’ project was the result of a boring day at home with nothing to do. one of my favorite things to do as a photographer is shoot in a studio on a perfect white seamless. now i do not happen to have a studio in my home or even professional lighting. but who said that was always necessary to take a good picture? so i got creative and found some old wallpaper in a closet. i took the back of it (which was white) and set it up against a wall as if it was a mini seamless. i did this in our sunroom on a somewhat cloudy afternoon, luckily providing the best natural light — yes that’s right no artificial lighting was used to take these images.
there was no message for this project. the point of this body of work was just for pure fun. the only intent i had when creating these setups was to find two objects that you would never see together, and combine them. the great thing about art is that sometimes there’s a really deep meaning, sometimes there’s no meaning behind the work at all, and occasionally the meaning starts to unfold as time passes and you uncover more within the art.
